ACT LIKE THE OTHERS
Jack and Lydia are on holiday in France
with their friends, Mike and Anna.
Mike loves to visit historical buildings.
Jack agrees to sightsee some historical
buildings with him.
Lydia and Anna decide to shop in the city.
"See you boys when we get back!" the girls
shout.
In the village Jack and Mike see a beautiful
old church, but when they enter the church,
a service is already in progress.
"Shh! Just sit quietly, so that we don't stand
out. And act like the others!" Mike
whispers.
Since they don't really know French, Jack
and Mike quietly sit down. During the
service, they stand, kneel and sit to follow
what the rest of the crowd do.
"I hope we blend in and don't look like
tourists!" Mike tells Jack.
At one point, the priest makes an
announcement and the man who sits next
to Jack and Mike stands up.
"We should stand up, too!" Jack whispers
to Mike.
So, Jack and Mike stand up with the man.
Suddenly, all the people burst into
laughter!
After the service, Jack and Mike approach
the priest, who speaks English.
"What's so funny?" Jack asks.
With a smile on his face the priest says,
"Well boys, there is a new baby born, and
it's tradition to ask the father to stand up."
Jack and Mike look at each other and Mike
shakes his head. He smiles and says, "I guess we should understand what people
do before we act like the others!"

Jack và Lydia đang đi nghỉ ở Pháp cùng
với hai người bạn của họ, Mike và Anna.
Mike thích đến thăm các di tích lịch sử.
Jack đồng ý đi tham quan một vài di tích
cùng với bạn.
Lydia và Anna thì quyết định đi mua sắm
trong thành phố. "Gặp lại các anh lúc tụi
em quay lại nhé!" hai cô gái hét vọng
theo.
Tại ngôi làng, Jack và Mike trông thấy
một nhà thờ cổ rất đẹp, nhưng khi họ vào
trong nhà thờ, buổi lễ cầu nguyện đang
diễn ra rồi.
"Suỵt! Cứ ngồi yên, như thế tụi mình
không bị lạc loài. Và cứ làm theo người
khác!" Mike nói thầm.
Vì họ không thực sự hiểu tiếng Pháp,
Jack và Mike yên lặng ngồi xuống.
Trong suốt buổi lễ, họ đứng lên, quỳ
xuống rồi lại ngồi xuống theo những gì
mọi người còn lại làm.
"Hi vọng tụi mình hòa nhập và trông
không giống như khách du lịch!" Mike
bảo Jack.
Ở một thời điểm, cha xứ tuyên bố một
câu và người đàn ông ngồi cạnh Jack và
Mike đứng dậy.
"Tụi mình cũng nên đứng dậy!" Jack nói
thầm với Mike.
Thế là Jack và Mike cũng đứng lên theo
người đàn ông. Tự dưng, mọi người đều
lăn ra cười!
Sau buổi lễ, Jack và Mike đến hỏi cha
xứ, bởi cha biết tiếng Anh.
"Có chuyện gì đáng cười vậy?" Jack hỏi.
Với một nụ cười, cha xứ nói, "Các con à,
có một đứa trẻ mới sinh, và theo truyền thống chúng tôi mời cha của đứa trẻ
đứng dậy".
Jack và Mike nhìn nhau, Mike lắc đầu.
Anh cười và nói, "Tôi cho rằng ta nên
hiểu rõ người khác đang làm gì trước khi
làm theo!"
